January 2008

January 2nd 2008, the Boeing Stratocruisers met at Alfy's Pizza for their monthly meeting at Silver Lake. Promptly at 5 pm, Joanne Luster president, called the meeting to order. Secretary Bonnie Smith read the minutes of our November 7th 2007 meeting (we had no meeting in December, just a PARTY) the minutes stand as read. Mark Thomson gave the treasurer's report.

ITEMS OF INTEREST: Our Christmas Party December 15th 2007 was held at O'Donnell's American Grill and Irish Pub. We had a very nice dinner and lots of good conversation. Exchange of gifts was done by Santa (Mike Smith). All who wanted got to sit on his lap!  (22) members were there and had their pictures taken with Santa  Joanne brought a cake for all of the great things our club has done---very good (and so was the cake)

It's January and dues are due!!!.

The Christmas House charity:  Besides the money and all of the other donations, we helped set up several days before their shopping started.  On the 12th of  December we went as a group and worked a shift from 9:00A.M.-3:00 P.M.  Among those that worked were Chuck Gore, Louella Novak, Phil and Karen Simons, Tom Joy, John and Wendy Lato, George and Joanne Luster and Mike and Bonnie Smith.  We helped 191 families with their Christmas shopping (the most they've ever had for one day) and no one had to come back.  Our jobs were:  Computer help, restocking the racks with clothing, shopping escorts, packing and carrying out and keeping the carts rolling.

George wanted to thank the guys that came and helped with the engine take-out of his 1961 and he is about ready to install his Chevy 350 into his 1955.  He is looking forward to that project.

Car Shows--

Seattle roadster show, February 29th through March 2nd.
The Village at Granite Falls on July 26that 10:00 A.M.  Meet at K-Mart (Evergreen Way, South Everett)

Rod Runs--

Leavenworth day trip-Phil will be in charge. Cashmere, to the Studebaker diner (use your daily driver if  the weather is bad).

We have a gallon of paint left to repaint the trailer, that will happen this spring sometime.

In 2008 we will have a car-of-the-month.  Each member at the meeting put their name in the jar and we will draw one a month.  For January we will have Sam Roberts and his red hotrod.  John Novak painted a big picture of his rod and it is BEAUTIFUL!  The picture will be displayed at the Boeing recreational center in our display case.  Tom Joy was picked for February and he will bring a picture of his car and items of interest.

Kla-Ha-Ya Days--no date has been set.  We had a lot of discussion about making changes in the way the show is run and to be more organized to make registration smoother.  Do we need new regulations for our choice of winners? (the people choose the winners)  Should we as a sponser club enter our cars for trophies or just show them without being in the competition?--this should be each member's choice.  We will have more on this later.

Jack Harding brought his family out to the meeting and we got to see their new daughter, Katlyn, son, Luke and wife, Lisa.  Of course Luke has been a regular since he was a few weeks old.  Was good to see them all.

Karen Simons sold split-the-pot tickets and Sam Roberts won and donated his winnings to the Battered Women shelter.  Thank you, Karen and Sam.

We had 23 in attendance and meeting adjourned at 6:00 P.M.

Respectfully submitted,
Bonnie Smith, Secretary
